Automatic Multiple Sampling Device controlled by a Central Unit
General Description
This Automatic Multiple Sampling Device was designed to optimize the grain reception of the plant giving the operators a fast and accurate tool for increasing the efficiency to identify and classify the quality of incoming products.

The main goal is separate the grain qualities for special production at the same time the incoming truck is tested. However, the device is fast enough to take analysis from all of the samples the operator takes from the truck (four depths and five times per truck). It also is an excellent tool to identify poor quality of product in the truck inaddition to defects in the storage while making a very representative measurement using averaged data from the material on the truck.

The controlled times taken in the field have demonstrated that it’s possible to handle the entire analysis of each truck in about 2 minutes.

 

The device has four different channels that handle the four pipes of the corresponding sections (top – medium – inferior – bottom) coming from the truck vacuum sampling device. In the main housing there are three parts with specific functions:
  • 1 The vacuum control section:
    An automatic mechanical gate valve that allows a perfect vacuum seal to let the truck sampling device send the entire sample taken through the pipes of the cyclone and finally to this section.
  • 2 The primary section:
    It’s the preliminary stage before the sample falls into the analyzing section. The sample stays in this section and is controlled by a solenoid valve activated upon specific combination of the signals coming from the controlling sensors. The objective of this section is to give the operator enough time to search the physical condition of the sample without interrupting the sample intake.
  • 3 The analyzing section:
    In this section the sample is analyzed while the grain is falling down in front of the optical sensor. Next the sample is received on the inspection table for the final physical analysis. The samples coming from the different truck sections fall separate and sequentially on this table.
  • The operator does not have to do anything to control the sample or its analysis. He just has to inspect the physical condition of the sample. When the truck is finished he pushes a key on his PC to automatically obtain the final analysis of the truck informing him of the Average of Protein, Fat, and Moisture, plus the Maximum Moisture and the section where it was obtained. This data goes directly to the company system and is protected against manual modifications.

    All the information from the different samples coming from the Automatic Multiple Sampling Device travels through optical fibers to the Central Unit, where specially designed devices handle the signals letting the software inform the operator of the results and the corresponding sample-section of the truck. This unit uses just one NIR spectrometer, installed into a TEC module controlled at 20°C +/- 0.1°C. It can manage up to eight different sensor channels through an exclusive fiber commuter design. With this system we expect to control in a sequential fashion two incoming trucks in a reception plant.

    The operation of the system is automatic from the reference taking of the system to the detection of trucks with special qualities. The operator screen shows an easily identifying colored tilting box.

    Everything is registered on the company system: Time, date, truck, sections, and results giving the quality manager a great tool for incoming inspection.
