Stem Cell Research

Developing technology and the future

Accurate determination of concentration and viability

Accurate determination of cell concentration and viability is crucial for reproducibility in stem cell research and production. NucleoCounter® instruments include optimized protocols for counting and determining the viability of:

  • Adipose tissue-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs)
  • Cells growing on microcarriers,
  • Hematopoietic stem cells (HSC) in the peripheral blood mononuclear cell (PBMC) fraction, directly from whole blood
  • Cell count determinations in spheroids.

Technology and usability

Stem cell research and its potential for therapeutic applications is one of the most promising medical treatments of the 21st century.

Determining the cell concentration and viability of stem cells is a real challenge, as these cells often require special culture conditions.

To ensure consistency and reproducibility in stem cell culture, accurate methods for the estimation of stem cell concentration and viability are needed. NucleoCounter® instruments offer a wide range of specialized assays to meet the needs of stem cell laboratories.

Specific applications:

  • Mesenchymal Stem Cell Counting in Regenerative Medicine
  • Hematopoietic stem cells
  • Counting cells growing on microcarriers
  • Determination of cell count in spheroids

The NucleoCounter® NC-202™ automated cell counter is the third generation of our cassette-based instruments. With improved hardware and new easy-to-use NC-View™ software, we take cell counting accuracy, speed and data management to new levels.

The NC-3000™ can perform cell counting and viability determination at high speed and includes plug-and-play analytical assays for mammalian, yeast and insect cells.
